CONSTRUCTION
In May of 2012, the Centro Cultural Bahia Matanchen, A.C. secured the donation of a building and lot from the Ejido of Aticama and the approval by the Mexican governmental agency, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), to construct the Aticama Museum of Archaeology and History.
A fund raising drive was immediately begun to secure funds for the completion of the project. To kick start the fund raising campaign, Leon Pope and Jorge Gonzalez agreed to match all cash donations to the project from all donors up to a cumulative total of $300,000 pesos. Thanks to our generous construction donors, the organization raised over 500,000 pesos to remodel the building and its grounds to serve as a museum!
The idea for a museum in our area originated with Dr. Rose Lee Patron of Santa Cruz de Miramar, Nayarit and is a continuation of her efforts to establish a museum to help conserve the many indigenous artifacts that are found in our area.
Also, special thanks to Noe Sanabia Castellanos, Nayarit State Coordinator for Community Museums, for all of his hard work to secure the approval and recognition of the new museum by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
