ABOUT US
The Aticama Museum of Archaeology and History was founded on May 15, 2011 by the Centro Cultural Bahia Matanchen, A.C., a Mexican nonprofit organization headquartered in Aticama, Municipality of San Blas, Nayarit, Mexico, working in conjunction with the Junta Vecinal of Aticama.
The mission statement of the Centro Cultural Bahia Matanchen, A.C. is "to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals, families and communities by creating new opportunities and helping them reach their fullest potential through the power of education, knowledge, culture and fellowship".
The Aticama Museum of Archaeology and History seeks to carry out that mission by creating and housing permanent exhibits that preserve and display the extensive prehispanic artifacts that were produced by the indigenous civilizations that inhabited the Municipality of San Blas, Nayarit from 2100 B.C. until the arrival of the Spaniards in the 1500's. Through the use of temporary exhibitions depicting the Huichol Culture, the Spanish Colonial era, the struggle for Mexican Independence, the Mexican Revolutionary era, and the Post -Revolutionary era, we also seek to bridge the epochs from the original indigenous civilizations up to the modern history of our area.
